This curated issue of literary fantasy offers both thrills and contemplation in the form of masterfully crafted prose and poetry. Though some are reflective and meek, others hit hard with both sword and ideas. The range of fantasy is vast, but a microcosm of it has been captured in these pages, like a faerie in a lantern.
Highlights Include: S.M. Reine’s “The Dragon and the Deep Kingdom,” chronicling the unexpected fall of an ancient Dwarven Kingdom; Michael Goe’s “Stewards of Magic,” where we return to the world of Nemia to learn the true meaning of magic; A return to Andrew Moore’s World System in “I Was Once Yours,” a viscerally tragic tale of zealotry and betrayal; and a bevy of poems from Arcanist alumni DJ Tyrer, Menke HB, and Charles Richard Livesay, which paint a world with only a few pages of verse.
